Feng Shui...
Recreate Your Space — Renew Your Soul
Originating in China over 4,000 years ago, the literal translation for feng shui is wind-water.
Being respectful of nature and receptive to their environments, ancient Chinese scholars studied the climate, geology and vegetation of the land seeking conditions for optimal health and prosperity. This research led to the formalized study of feng shui and to the notion that who we are is influenced by where we are.
Core concepts of feng shui include:
Tao — The ‘Way’ of natural harmony, truth and beauty. Our attempt to live in harmony with the laws of nature by bringing nature inside the home.
Yin/Yang — connected and harmonious opposites. The process of harmonization ensuring a constant, dynamic balance of all things.
Chi— the breath of life or vitality. The virtual energy and force that flows all around us. Any influence that can be experienced through the five senses.
Five Element Theory — balancing of the five natural elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
There are a variety of feng shui schools with assorted philosophies and teachings. I received my certification in Pyramid feng shui. While it is a common belief that feng shui is all about place, the ideology of Pyramid School Feng Shui is also about how a person experiences a place.
Feng shui brings us a new awareness of our surroundings. As we investigate our feelings and reactions to an environment, we become more empowered to make choices. Changes in certain patterns of behavior can then be made to assist with achieving personal goals.
