WHAT IS FENG SHUI?
Feng shui originated in China somewhere between 2,000 and 4,000 years ago. The literal translation for feng shui is wind-water. The purpose of feng shui is to parallel our physical space with our personal goals and create balanced and harmonious energy where we live and work.
There are a variety of feng shui schools with varied philosophies and teachings. While it is a common belief that feng shui is all about place, the ideology of Pyramid School Feng Shui is about how a person experiences a place. By first investigating the feelings and reactions of human beings to an environment, an increased awareness of the personal environment is gained. Changes in certain patterns of behavior can then be made to assist with achieving personal goals.
Some of the core concepts of feng shui include:
- Tao — The ‘Way’ of natural harmony, truth and beauty. Our attempt to live in harmony with the laws of nature by bringing nature inside the home.
- Yin/Yang — connected and harmonious opposites. The process of harmonization ensuring a constant, dynamic balance of all things.
- Chi — the breath of life or vitality. The virtual energy and force that flows all around us. Any influence that can be experienced through the five senses.
- Balancing the five natural elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
It is important to consider that human beings have free will when working with the principals of feng shui. By seeing, listening to, and knowing about your environment, you are free to create a personal living space of your own choosing. |
