OTHER SCHOOLS OF FENG SHUI
Form School
Accredited as the origin of feng shui, its premises are based upon the forces of Mother Nature, reading the lay of the land, and taking into consideration climate, contour and shape. It addresses the energies of roads, rivers, mountains and placement of structures. Typically you will find that Form School is utilized by both the Black Hat School and the Compass school.
Compass School
Rooted in the study of the 28 Constellations. Based on the ancient Chinese belief that everything in heaven has a corresponding part on earth. Importance is placed on direction. This style of feng shui uses the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching and relates them to the eight points of the Compass. The primary tool used in the practice of this school is a feng shui compass or lo p’an.
Black Sect
Introduced to America by Professor Lin Yun, also known as Grandmaster Lin Yun. This practice is referred to as Black Sect Tantric Buddhism, Black Hat, BHS and BTB and is a combination of traditional feng shui, Tibetan Buddhism, and Taoism. In this version, a mapping system called the bagua is used, but it is based solely on the direction of the front door, rather than real compass directions. The map determines areas of the nine life situations that are located throughout your home. These areas include: Marriage/Relationships, Wealth, Health, Children/Creativity, Family, Career, Fame/Reputation, Knowledge/Wisdom, Helpful People/Travel.
Flying Star School
Traditional Chinese feng shui that is primarily based on numerology. This school is the most complex, and focuses on time as well as direction and land. Building construction dates are taken into consideration to calculate appropriate placement. The “stars” are the nine aspects of nature, which are said to effect energy levels through the combined influences of spacial direction and the passage of time.
